A part of Calvin’s commitment to develop programmes of excellence is a recognition by the school of the importance of working in partnership with the wider community.

Science & Engineering

Calvin Christian School has participated very successfully in the Science and Engineering Challenge. Regional heats of this competition are held around the state, with successful teams progressing to state, then national finals. The event involves teams of approximately thirty Year 7-10 students working in small groups to solve engineering design and construction problems.

Calvin has had excellent success in the Science and Engineering Challenge, making it through to the state final every year as well as representing Tasmania in the National Finals in 2007 and 2011. In 2011 the team finished fourth in Australia.

Calvin’s participation in the challenge stems from the school’s belief that one of the most powerful ways to motivate students is by involving them in relevant learning projects that builds on and stimulates student interest. Working in collaboration with others enhances understanding and develops team work that recognises the value of each team member.
