The Power of Partnership
Across the course of the last few weeks, it has been exciting to see our School spring to life after the dormant period of summer.
This was particularly evident recently with our Community BBQs and our Parent-Teacher interviews this week. Connecting with you as parents is not only a nice thing to do, it is central to our work and mission as a school.
Our School was established with a core belief that parents are primarily responsible for the education of their children and that we, as a school, partner with parents in this incredible responsibility. When applying this to our roles as parents and teachers, events like our recent Community BBQs and this week’s Parent-Teacher interviews are not just ‘nice ideas’ or ‘good things to do’, they are critical opportunities to connect those two important worlds for our children, home and school. The power of shared purpose and common understanding in the context of Christian Education has the power to transform the lives of our young people (and ourselves).
We instinctively understand that education is about learning and teaching but we know that it is not a simple matter of ‘inputs’ and ‘outputs’, there is a complex process that includes the whole child, heart, mind, body and soul. What we have eaten for breakfast, our last conversation with our parents, the time of day (and the list goes on) all impact on our ability to engage.
“Connecting with you as parents is not only a nice thing to do, it is central to our work and mission as a school.”
As we look ahead to a year of learning and growth for our children, it is encouraging to be able to work with common purpose and openness with the parents of the students we teach. The contribution of parents is a great blessing to our teachers and your commitment speaks to your children of the alignment between home and school and our shared purpose in educating them. Your children notice when you are interested and engaged and when you give of your precious time.
As we begin this new school year, I want to thank you for your time, for the excellent response to these events and our Community Engagement Committee survey. The Committee will be reviewing your feedback later this Term. There are many opportunities through the year to come to engage as parents. I am so appreciative of the way our community gives of its time and I look forward to seeing you at one of our School events.
