Apprenticeships and Skills Shortages

An Australian Apprenticeship is a national qualification at Certificate III level.

It is designed to be on-the-job training to equip you for a pathway into a practical job which can lead you anywhere.

Both State and Federal Governments are in the process of finalising plans to increase infrastructure spending. The obvious upshot of that is a need for skilled labour. In Tasmania the following construction trades experience a skilled labour shortage: Bricklaying, plumbing, fibrous plasterer, cabinet maker, carpenter, general electricians.

There is also a shortage of sheet metal workers, fitters, metal fabricators, panel beaters, hairdressers and bakers. If you are keen on an apprenticeship and you want a job where you are likely to be employed on an ongoing basis, why not consider these?

Most employers expect to employ an apprentice who has completed Year 12, however, did you know you can complete a school-based apprenticeship? Ask me how.

Here are my key tips for gaining an apprenticeship.

  1. Go to the Australian Apprenticeships website and complete a careers aptitude test.

  2. Look for work experience in this field.

  3. Follow the steps on the Australian Apprencticeship Pathways website.

  4. Consider a Defence Force apprenticeship.

  5. Book an appointment to discuss it with me or fill in the form on the Careers page.
