How many times have you said to yourself "I'll do that tomorrow". And then tomorrow comes and that important task gets put on the shelf for another day and another day and another day.
It happens to us all - all the time. But, there's a grain of truth to the old saying "tomorrow never comes" and it certainly doesn't present new and exciting opportunities if you are always shelving things into a dark untouched oblivion.
I was speaking recently to a colleague about how young adults can often be caught in the strange limbo universe of no longer being a child, but not-yet possessing adult determination and drive. For some teens, it can be the case of life hasn't arrived yet and they are always living in anticipation of tomorrow and the possibilities adulthood will bring. While residing in this limbo land teens can often fall into the trap of seeing dreams and possibilities slip through their fingers, simply because they didn't realise it was theirs for the taking. TODAY.
The same can be said for careers. If you wait until you have left school to explore your options, experience opportunities and speak to people living that pathway, you are essentially not living the most of your 'career' life today. Life is not about waiting for tomorrow, it's about grabbing hold of THIS day. In Psalm 118:24 the author says to "celebrate and be festive for this is the very day God has acted". I like the notion that God can and DOES use this day to enact his plans, both for our lives and for his gospel kingdom. So then young adult, what are you waiting for?
The Tasmanian Department of Education has developed the Anything Can Happen website which is a great starting point if you’re not really sure what you want to do. You can of course come and make an appointment to see me. I’d love to do what I can to assist you in developing your future pathway whatever that looks like!
